This image captures two festivalgoers relaxing shirtless on the grass at the Monterey International Pop Festival. Stretched out beneath the California sun, the pair embody the casual, free-spirited atmosphere that surrounded the groundbreaking gathering of music and counterculture.

The Monterey International Pop Festival was held June 16–18, 1967, and became a defining celebration of the emerging counterculture. Beyond its legendary performances, the festival was remembered for its youthful audience and atmosphere of freedom, creativity, and community during the Summer of Love.
