This image captures Keith Moon of The Who behind his drum kit during the Monterey International Pop Festival. Dressed in a distinctive patterned stage outfit, Moon is caught in the midst of the performance, surrounded by cymbals and drums with the bold “WHO” logo displayed across the bass drum.
The Who’s explosive Monterey appearance helped introduce the British band’s famously destructive stage show to a wider American audience. Moon’s wild, powerful drumming was central to the group’s sound and theatrical energy, contributing to a performance that culminated with smashed instruments and smoke filling the stage.
